RqTerrain is a tool developed to create specific constructions of ground using satellite images and maps of relief (similar to Google Earth). This engine allows to reconstruct a 3D landscape by assembling these maps by their geographic coordinates with the 2D satellite images map on the ground.
A virtual camera travels in real time along paths in a smooth way, allowing for high definition journeys, adorned with immersive atmospheric effects such as clouds that give a vertiginous sense of air and altitude.
The virtual terrains aim at being integrated in some interactive installations, like the C-Zero Travel effect.
Our work is base on real time techniques well-known by game developers, such as "Frustum culling" or "Adaptative level of detail" for a optimal, smooth rendering.
